I wish I could’ve gotten a picture

From the show last night. Hanging out with Ryan from Extortion and that dude with long hair who used to work at Missing Link whose name escapes me. 

It would’ve been quite significant, I mean, I remember being 15 in yr.9 going to Missing Link and I remember chatting to that dude about my Agents of Abhorrence tshirt or something, or how my band was actually on some flyer in a record shop for the first time in my life or he would give me record suggestions. And then last night, my band Putkah, played on the same bill as his band, we were after him, we had a bigger crowd than him, this is a dude who I remember being awesome back when I was 15 playing a show with me, getting less of a crowd. It was just weird for me to see. He started talking to me after the show about how good our set was and told me I was a pretty fucking impressive drummer. 

Around the same time I was talking to him out the front, Ryan from fucking Extortion came up to me and started talking to me about how good the set was, said he loved watching me drum and it was literally like ‘is this real life?’. I saw Extortion play at Midian in 2009 with this band called Trash Talk, and if you’ve ever heard the ‘Hardcore Punk Changed My Life’ story, you know how important that show was to me. I’ve loved Extortion for years, they’re one of the bands in the world where I’ve paid for their vinyls, I’ve gone out 40km to see them play, they to me almost represent the highest aim any Australian punk band can be. They’ve played festivals in America, toured Australia numerous times and everyone seems to like them, fuck, I even follow dudes here on Tumblr who seem to own every fucking shirt they’ve put out, out of pure fandom. So it was a big deal to me to have Ryan tell me we played awesomely. 

It was a big deal, to realize that if 14 year old Roger saw me last night, I probably would’ve been one of those people he idolized and wanted to be or wanted to know and be friends with. It’s a big deal to me to know that I’ve lost track a couple times of what I’ve been doing with my life, but last night solidified that I’m where I wanted to be in 3 years time when I was 14.
